The president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has come out boldly to criticize the purported amendment on the RPC by the General council of the Bar, which was done to be in comformity with the Legal Practioners Act, as was stated by the chairman of the General Counil of the Bar.

The NBA President has called on lawyers to maintain status quo on the position of the RPC ,and urged everyone to continue with their normal businesses and disregard the said amendment, stating that no notice was sent to NBA before the said amendment by the general council of the Bar. According to the NBA President, Mr OLUMIDE AkPATA, base on the message we  got from his Facebook page, the recently Inaugurated president of NBA has this to say; I have seen and read Statutory Instrument No. 15 of 2020 (the “Instrument”), making the rounds on social media and which purports to amend certain provisions of the 2007 Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners (RPC).  Since the Instrument was released, I have received numerous calls and messages from lawyers across the country seeking clarification and guidance on the purport of the Instrument.  By virtue of the Instrument, the following provisions of the RPC are to be deemed deleted: a) Rule 9(2), which relates to defaul

My Ernest Advice To Our New President Elect Of NBA.

Congratulations to our newly Elected NBA president, as He was sworn in on Friday, the 28th day of August,2020. As  the  30th president elect of Nigeria Bar Association. During his inaugural speech, He announced that free NBA Seals will now accompany our Bar Practice Fees.  This  direction made by the NBA President on inclusion of 2packs of NBA seal to accompany the payment of Bar practicing fee, is a welcome development and a good way to kick start a good administration, this will go a long way in unifying all  members of the Bar. However , Mr. President ,may it please you Sir to also take further and urgent steps in restoring back to life the decaying areas in our profession. firstly Sir,  I urge you to look into the unimplementation and non regulatory issues of our statutory charges as contend in the legal practitioners act and that of Rpc, visa-vis to un

LET OLUNIDE AKPATA HAVE A GOOD BREATH-SELAH TO THOSE CLAMORING FOR A SAN CANDIDACY .

WHO IS AFRAID OF OLUMIDE AKPATA? The desperation to kick out Olumide Akpata at all cost from the NBA presidential election [as they did to Mazi Afam Osigwe during the last cycle] is so sickening. It stinks to high heaven!  1. First they said he is not from the West and cannot run for office. That one failed, and the ECNBA cleared the man. 2. They called him all sorts of names for donating palliatives to his NBA branch at the peak of the Coronavirus pandemic, and called for his disqualification because, according to them, this kind gesture (which his detractors never showed their colleagues) was designed to entice lawyers! This failed. 3. They said he is not a SAN and has no litigation experience because the NBA only belongs to awon "My Lord, May I?" Apologies to Lasisi Elenu. Like the ones before it, this propaganda failed. 4. Then, they wrote a terribly insulting letter calling on the Body of SANs to make sure no junior lawyer ("including Mr Akpata who has b
