The validation conference of the UN Universal Periodic Review was held at the Haradua Centre in Abuja on 20th October 2023. The conference began at 9:30am with a welcome address from Dr. Princess Frank-Chukwuani, the representative of the Solicitor-General/Permanent Secretary. She mentioned that the Solicitor-General was unable to attend due to another national duty. Dr. Princess emphasized that the Universal Periodic Review is a state-driven process under the United Nations Human Rights Council, which assesses how states fulfill their human rights obligations. Nigeria has undergone reviews in 2009, 2013, and 2018, and preparations are underway for the 4th schedule in January/February 2024. The inter-ministerial Committee (IMC) was inaugurated in September 2022 by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to oversee the process.
