The petition, dated May 27, 2024, accuses Federal Staff Hospital of neglecting the care of Mr. Dike, ultimately leading to his demise on April 25, 2024. Otu Oka-iwu Abuja is demanding a thorough investigation into the matter while calling for accountability from the hospital.
According to the petition, Mr. Chiagoziem Dike, who suffered from asthma, was urgently rushed to Federal Staff Hospital in Gwarimpa. Shockingly, the hospital failed to promptly receive him, as required in emergency situations, exacerbating the critical nature of his condition.
Regrettably, once Mr. Dike was eventually permitted entry, he was abandoned outside the ward without receiving any first aid treatment. It was not until a significant amount of time had passed that the hospital instructed his immediate transfer to the Federal Medical Center in Jabi. Unfortunately, Mr. Dike tragically succumbed to his condition en route to Jabi Federal Medical Center.
The petition filed by Otu Oka-iwu Abuja has provoked outrage and deep concern among the community, emphasizing the pressing need for substantial reforms in Nigeria's healthcare sector. The organization's call for accountability and justice seeks to prevent similar incidents from recurring in the future and to ensure the provision of improved healthcare services nationwide.
As this case gains attention, the affected community and the wider public fervently hope that a thorough investigation will be conducted to uncover the truth behind the alleged medical negligence at Federal Staff Hospital, Gwarimpa. In doing so, they aim to establish accountability for the tragic loss of Mr. Chiagoziem Dike and prevent such heartbreaking incidents in the future.
It is expected that the Ministry of Health and relevant authorities will take prompt action on the petition, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding Mr. Dike's death and providing justice for his grieving family. The outcome of this investigation will likely have far-reaching implications for the ongoing efforts to implement much-needed reforms within Nigeria's healthcare system.
