The UK government opened a visa summission centre in Enugu State, Nigeria. The centre is aimed at providing a more convenient and efficient visa application process for residents of southeastern Nigeria.
The launch was announced by the Deputy British High Commissioner in Nigeria, Ben Llewellyn-Jones, who stated that the centre would help to strengthen ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom by making it easier for Nigerians to visit the UK for business, tourism, and other purposes.
“The appointment system allows an applicant to select Enugu as their application location when applying for a UK Visa. This is in addition to current locations in Abuja. Lagos and Port Harcourt,” the statement read.
“The temporary submission centre in Enugu opens as a Premium Location meaning it will cost NGN246,250.00, which includes a Premium Lounge appointment, courier return, SMS notifications, general customer support and guidance.”
The visa processing centre, which is located at the Ecumenical Centre in Enugu, will be operated by TLScontact, a UK visa application outsourcing company. TLScontact will provide a range of services, including visa application submission, biometric data collection, and document scanning.
The centre is expected to reduce the time and cost involved in visa applications for residents of the southeast region of Nigeria. It will also enable UK authorities to process visa applications more quickly and efficiently, helping to further improve bilateral relations between the UK and Nigeria.
The launch of the visa processing centre in Enugu State is part of the UK government's ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with Nigeria, and to promote greater trade and investment between the two countries.
This gaint stride was highly commended by the Enugu State Government, In a statement, released by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof Chidiebere Onyia, who sees this as a welcome development. recalled that the visa centre was part of Governor Peter Mbah’s earlier requests during the visit to the Government House, Enugu, by the UK High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Richard Montgomery, in June this year.
The statement also noted that the establishment of the visa centre would enhance and strengthen business and tourism relationships between the United Kingdom and Enugu State. It expressed gratitude to the UK government and the VFS Global for their partnership and investment in Enugu State.
The SSG further stated that the visa centre would provide easy accessibility to UK visa application services for residents in the South-East and South-South regions of Nigeria, thereby reducing the stress and cost of travelling to Lagos or Abuja. It is expected that the centre would boost the economic and tourism potential of Enugu State and the entire South-East region.
The UK High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Richard Montgomery, affirmed that the establishment of the visa centre in Enugu State would further deepen the United Kingdom's ties with Nigeria, especially in the areas of business, culture, and education. He expressed optimism that more UK companies would be attracted to invest in Enugu State, and that more Nigerians would visit the UK for business, education, and leisure.

The British High Commission further encouraged residents to take advantage of the visa centre to apply for visas and travel to the UK for tourism, business, and other purposes.
In his remarks, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, commended the Enugu State government for its hospitality and welcoming environment.
