Communication is vital the success of every relationship.

Communication is very necessary in a relationship or marriage.
To communicate means to interact with one another.

To maintain a healthy relationship communication is very paramount.

Communication is indeed crucial for maintaining a healthy relationship. It helps build trust, understanding, and emotional connection between partners.

Here are a few reasons why communication is paramount in a relationship:

1. Emotional intimacy: Open and honest communication allows partners to share their thoughts, feelings, and vulnerabilities with each other. This fosters emotional intimacy and strengthens the bond between partners.

2. Resolving conflicts: Effective communication helps in resolving conflicts and disagreements. It allows both partners to express their concerns, listen to each other's perspectives, and work towards finding mutually satisfying solutions.

3. Building trust: When partners communicate openly and honestly, it builds trust in the relationship. Trust is the foundation of a healthy relationship, and good communication helps create a safe and secure environment for both partners to share their thoughts and feelings.

4. Understanding each other's needs: Communication enables partners to understand each other's needs, desires, and expectations. By openly discussing these aspects, couples can work together to meet each other's needs and maintain a balanced and fulfilling relationship.

5. Strengthening connection: Regular communication helps partners stay connected and engaged with each other's lives. By sharing daily experiences, dreams, and goals, couples can grow together and maintain a strong emotional connection.

6. Avoiding misunderstandings: Lack of communication can lead to misunderstandings and assumptions. By being open and clear in your communication, you can avoid unnecessary conflicts and ensure that both partners have a shared understanding of each other's thoughts and feelings.

Remember, communication is a two-way street, and both partners need to actively participate and listen to each other. By prioritizing open and honest communication, you can create a healthy and fulfilling relationship.
Improving communication with your partner is essential for a healthy and fulfilling relationship. Here are some tips to help you enhance your communication skills:

1. Active listening: Practice active listening by giving your partner your full attention. Avoid interrupting or planning your response while they are speaking. Show that you are engaged by nodding, making eye contact, and asking clarifying questions.

2. Express yourself clearly: Be clear and concise when expressing your thoughts, feelings, and needs. Avoid vague or ambiguous statements that could lead to misunderstandings. Use "I" statements to express how you feel, rather than blaming or criticizing your partner.

3. Non-verbal communication: Pay attention to your body language and non-verbal cues, as they can convey messages as effectively as words. Maintain good eye contact, use open and relaxed body language, and be aware of your tone of voice.
4. Empathy and understanding: Try to put yourself in your partner's shoes and understand their perspective. Show empathy by acknowledging their feelings and validating their experiences. Avoid being defensive or dismissive of their emotions.

5. Timing is key: Choose the right time and place to discuss important matters. Avoid discussing sensitive topics when you or your partner are tired, stressed, or distracted. Find a calm and private setting where you can both focus on the conversation.

6. Practice patience: Be patient and give your partner time to express themselves fully. Avoid rushing or interrupting them. Remember that effective communication takes time and effort from both sides.

7. Use positive language: Frame your statements in a positive and constructive manner. Instead of focusing on what your partner is doing wrong, emphasize what you appreciate about them and suggest improvements as a team.

8. Seek clarification: If you are unsure about something your partner said, ask for clarification rather than making assumptions. This will help avoid misunderstandings and ensure that you both have a clear understanding of each other's thoughts and feelings.

9. Practice conflict resolution: Learn to manage conflicts in a healthy and productive way. Use "I" statements to express your concerns, actively listen to your partner's perspective, and work together to find a mutually beneficial solution.

10. Seek professional help if needed: If you find that communication issues persist despite your efforts, consider seeking the help of a couples therapist or relationship counselor. They can provide guidance and teach you effective communication techniques tailored to your specific situation.

Remember, improving communication is an ongoing process that requires effort and commitment from both partners. By practicing these tips consistently, you can strengthen your connection and foster a more open and understanding relationship.

Lack of communication in marriage or relationship can hinder the success of the relationship or destroy the progress of it.

Lack of communication in a relationship have various negative effects, as effective communication is vital for maintaining a healthy and fulfilling partnership.

Here are some vital consequences of inadequate communication in a relationship:

1. Misunderstandings and conflicts: When partners do not communicate effectively, misunderstandings can arise. Without clear communication, assumptions and misinterpretations can lead to unnecessary conflicts and arguments.

2. Emotional distance: Lack of communication can create emotional distance between partners. When thoughts, feelings, and needs are not shared openly, it can result in a sense of disconnect and isolation. Over time, this can erode the emotional bond between partners.

3. Resentment and frustration: When communication is lacking, partners may feel unheard or ignored. This can lead to feelings of resentment and frustration, as one or both individuals may feel their needs are not being met or their opinions are not valued.

4. Decreased intimacy: Intimacy, both emotional and physical, relies on open and honest communication. When communication is lacking, it can impact the level of intimacy in the relationship. Partners may feel less connected and struggle to express their desires and needs, leading to a decline in intimacy.

5. Lack of problem-solving: Effective communication is essential for problem-solving within a relationship. When communication is poor, issues and challenges may go unresolved, leading to a buildup of resentment and dissatisfaction.

6. Decreased trust and insecurity: Without open and honest communication, trust can erode in a relationship. Partners may feel uncertain about each other's intentions or may doubt the authenticity of their communication. This can create insecurity and strain the trust within the partnership.

7. Stagnation or lack of growth: Communication is crucial for personal and relationship growth. Without effective communication, partners may struggle to express their desires, goals, and aspirations. This can lead to a lack of personal and relationship development and a feeling of stagnation.

It is important to recognize the impact of poor communication and actively work towards improving it in your relationship. By prioritizing open and honest communication, partners can address these negative effects and foster a healthier and more fulfilling connection.

The First Major Casualty of Section 83 of the Electoral Act 2026 May Have Emerged

The recent decision of the Federal High Court in Fubara Dagogo v. All Progressives Congress (APC) & 3 Ors., Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/591/2026 delivered by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, represents a significant development in Nigeria’s pre-election jurisprudence. In that case, the court struck out the suit challenging the APC National Congress and proceeded to award punitive costs of ₦10 million each against the plaintiff, Mr. Fubara Dagogo, and his counsel, Chief Sir O.A.U. Onyema, for what the court considered a frivolous and non-justiciable action. The court held that the dispute arose purely from the internal congress and nomination processes of the political party and therefore fell outside the jurisdiction of the court by virtue of Section 83(5) of the Electoral Act 2026.  Justice Abdulmalik maintained that there was no allegation or proof of any breach of the Constitution, the Electoral Act, or the party’s constitution and guidelines capable of warranting judicial inte...

Section 83 and the Myth of Judicial Silence in Party Politics

The recent assertion by my brother, Festus Okoye Esq, that lawyers have become scapegoats in internal party conflicts owing to their recourse to the courts calls for careful constitutional and judicial interrogation. At the centre of this debate lies Section 83 of the Electoral Act 2026, particularly the suggestion that it absolutely ousts the jurisdiction of the courts over the internal affairs of political parties. With the greatest respect to lawyers who are holding this view, that broad interpretation may appear overstretched and not constitutionally sustainable. Section 83(5) of the Electoral Act, read in isolation, appears to bar courts from entertaining disputes relating to party internal issues absolutely.  On a literal reading, it suggests a legislative intent to shield political parties from judicial scrutiny. That may not absolutely be true. Such a construction ignores a foundational principle of Nigeria’s constitutional order, which is the fact that...

Justice Delivery and Prevailing Conflicting Judgments: An Imperative for Urgent Judicial Reforms

I had the rare  privilege of participating as a panelist at the Biennial Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association, Anaocha Branch, Anambra State this weekend,  where distinguished Professors of Law, Justices of various courts, Senior Advocates of Nigeria, and legal scholars gathered to interrogate one of the most pressing challenges confronting the Nigerian judiciary today: "the growing menace of conflicting judgments and the urgent need for judicial reforms". The topic was not only timely but fundamental to the survival of public confidence in the administration of justice. A judiciary that speaks with contradictory voices weakens the rule of law, undermines democratic stability, and erodes citizens’ faith in the courts as impartial arbiters of justice. Conflicting judgments occur when courts of coordinate jurisdiction issue inconsistent decisions on the same subject matter, thereby creating uncertainty and confusion in the legal system. Unfortunately, this distu...

Courts and their jurisdiction.

There are different types of courts in Nigeria. Each of them has its own functions. So, what are the hierarchy of courts in Nigeria? Let's find this out together. Actually, courts in Nigeria are renowned and recognized as the hallowed chambers of jurisdiction, where candid justice is meted out to all and sundry, without favoritism, sentiment, emotion, or being unnecessarily involved in crass legalism. What is more, we do not only have courts of law but courts of equity as well. The Nigerian Constitution divides the government’s structure into three branches – the legislative, executive, and judiciary. According to the Section 6 of the 1999 Constitution, judicial powers are vested in the courts. Courts are authorized by law to exercise jurisdiction at first instance, and on appeals in all proceedings and actions relating to matters between people, or between government/authority and any person in Nigeria. It is also aimed at defining any question as to the civil rights a...
