High Operational Costs Prompt Decision, Calls for Support and Cooperation from Industry Stakeholders
The Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) has recently announced the withdrawal of operations by Petroleum Truck Owners due to high operational costs in the industry. In a letter addressed to the General Secretary of NUPENG, NARTO expressed their frustrations with the lack of appropriate freight rates for their operations despite numerous efforts to negotiate with relevant authorities.
The National Executive Council of NARTO has directed all members to stop making their Petroleum Trucks available for loading activities starting from February 19, 2024. This decision comes as a result of the challenging economic situation in the country, making it unsustainable for Petroleum Truck Owners to continue their business operations.
In a letter dated 15th of February, 2024, NARTO has called upon the support and cooperation of NUPENG and its members, particularly Petroleum Truck Drivers, to comply with the directive in order to ensure the sustainability of the Petroleum Haulage business and effective service delivery. The association emphasized the need for unity and understanding in facing these challenges together.
In conclusion, NARTO expressed their gratitude for the anticipated cooperation and support from NUPENG and other relevant stakeholders in the industry. The association remains committed to finding solutions to the issues plaguing Petroleum Truck Owners and looks forward to a positive response from all parties involved.
