The Kano State Government has expressed outrage over the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment on the state's governorship election, which initially declared the All Progressives Congress (APC)'s Nasiru Gawuna as the winner but later affirmed Governor Abba Yusuf's victory. The controversy surrounding the CTC has now been taken to the Supreme Court for resolution.
Details:
The Kano State Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, appeared on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily to criticize the claim made by the Appeal Court regarding an error on the CTC. He described the situation as "outrageously scandalous" and questioned how a typographical error could affect entire paragraphs.
Despite the court's clarification that it was a typo error, Dederi argued that the trending copy of the CTC is the only version they have, and there is no corrected version available. He firmly stated that the claims of a typo error are not acceptable.
Governor Abba Yusuf and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have taken the matter to the Supreme Court, challenging the verdict and hoping for justice. The NNPP specifically challenged the entire judgment of the Court of Appeal, except for the conclusion and orders at page 67 of the CTC.
The court's judgment has led to heightened tensions in Kano State, with protests taking place in the Dan Agundi area. Some protesters expressed their readiness to die for justice. However, the police authorities in the state have vowed to clamp down on such demonstrations.
The controversy surrounding the Kano State governorship election verdict has now shifted to the Supreme Court for resolution. The Kano State Government, Governor Abba Yusuf, and the NNPP are hopeful that justice will be served. Meanwhile, tensions remain high in the state, with protests taking place and police authorities prepared to maintain order.
