INEC's Initial Declaration Upheld by Federal Court of Appeal, Professor Sunday Nnamchi Confirmed Winner of Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency Election

               PROF. SUNDAY NNAMCHI
The Court of Appeal comfirms Certificate of Return Presented to Labour Party Candidate, Validating INEC's Decision

In a significant development, the Federal Court of Appeal has upheld the initial declaration made by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency election held on the 25th of February, 2023. The court's decision confirms Prof.Sunday Nnamchi, the candidate of the Labour Party, as the rightful winner of the election, further strengthening the credibility of INEC's judgment.

On the day of the election, INEC declared Prof. Sunday Nnamchi as the winner of the Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency seat formerly occupied by Hon. NNAJI PRINCE CORNELIUS during  the eight Assembly. Subsequently, a certificate of return was duly presented to him, signifying his victory and eligibility to assume the position.
           Hon. NNAJI PRINCE CORNELIUS
However, the election result faced a legal challenge when the Enugu Tribunal annulled Prof.Nnamchi's victory and declared Prince Cornelius Nnaji of the PDP as the winner instead. This decision by the Enugu Tribunal sparked controversy and raised concerns about the accuracy and fairness of their findings.

In response to the Tribunal's decision, Prof. Nnamchi and the Labour Party filed an appeal with the Federal Court of Appeal, seeking a review of the ruling. After careful consideration of the evidence presented, the court has now overturned the Enugu Tribunal's decision, thereby validating INEC's initial declaration.

This turn of events not only restores Prof.Nnamchi's position as the rightful winner but also affirms the trust and confidence in INEC's ability to conduct free and fair elections. The Federal Court of Appeal's decision serves as a testament to the importance of an independent judiciary in ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.

With the court's ruling, Professor Sunday Nnamchi can now fully assume his duties as the representative for the Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency. This outcome is a victory for democracy and the will of the people who cast their votes in support of his candidacy.
As we celebrate this resolution, it is crucial to reflect on the significance of transparent and accountable electoral processes. The adherence to democratic principles and the rule of law is vital for upholding the trust of the electorate and maintaining the stability of our democratic system.
Congratulations to Professor Sunday Nnamchi on his well-deserved victory and the validation of his election as the representative for the Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency. May his tenure be marked by dedication, integrity, and a commitment to serving the needs of his constituents.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding the sanctity of the electoral process and ensuring that the will of the people prevails. The Federal Court of Appeal's decision reinforces the belief that justice ultimately triumphs, and democracy remains the cornerstone of our nation.

Let us hope that this outcome will inspire further efforts to strengthen our electoral system and foster a culture of trust, transparency, and fairness in future elections across Nigeria.
