How to handle issues in your relationship

Dealing with conflicts in a relationship can be challenging, but here are some steps you can take to navigate through them:

1. Communication:
Open and honest communication is key. Take the time to listen to your partner's perspective and express your own thoughts and feelings without blame or judgment.

2. Choose the right time and place: Find a calm and private environment where you can both discuss the conflict without interruptions or distractions.

3. Active listening:
Show empathy and understanding by actively listening to your partner's concerns. Repeat back what you heard to ensure you understood correctly.

4. Avoid blame and criticism: Instead of blaming each other, focus on the issue at hand and work together to find a solution. Use "I" statements to express how you feel, rather than attacking or accusing your partner.

5. Compromise:
Look for common ground and be willing to find a middle ground that satisfies both parties. Be open to making concessions and finding a solution that works for both of you.

6. Seek understanding:
Try to understand the underlying reasons behind the conflict. Sometimes conflicts are rooted in deeper issues, so addressing those can help prevent future conflicts.

7. Take a break if needed:
If emotions are running high, it's okay to take a break and revisit the conversation when you both have calmed down. This can help prevent saying things you might regret later.

8. Apologize and forgive:
if you realize you were in the wrong, apologize sincerely. On the other hand, be willing to forgive your partner's mistakes and move forward.

9. Seek professional help if necessary: If conflicts persist and you're unable to resolve them on your own, consider seeking the help of a couples therapist or relationship counselor.

In conclusion

Have it at the back of your mind that conflicts is a natural part of any relationship. It's how you handle them that can make a difference in the overall health and happiness of your relationship.

Dual party membership in Nigeria; will tougher sanctions strengthen party Discipline, Without Undermining Freedom of Association and internal Democratic Accountability.

Dual party membership has continued to erode party discipline and weaken democratic accountability in Nigeria. The amendment to Section 77 of the Electoral Act is a bold s tep forward, expressly prohibiting multiple party membership and prescribing strict penalties ₦10 million fine, two years imprisonment, or both to deter political inconsistency. Nonetheless, this must be balanced with Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which guarantees freedom of association. The law does not restrict political participation but ensures that party affiliation is singular, clear, and lawful at any given time. For this reform to be effective, political parties must enforce internal discipline through credible membership registers, transparent primaries, and strict adherence to their constitutions. However, enforcement cannot rest on parties alone. The  must take decisive steps by establishing a centralised digital membership database, auditing party registers, and enforci...

THE UMUAHIA/IKWUANO/IKOT EKPENE ROAD: A SHAMELESS ATTEMPT TO REWRITE A KNOWN STORY

I read with a mixture of amusement and sadness the statement credited to one Mr. Chidi Uwaeziozi, who claims to be the Controller of Works for Abia State in the Federal Ministry of Works. In that statement, he asserted that the Umuahia/Ikwuano/Ikot Ekpene Road continues to be executed and funded by the Federal Government, apparently in response to recent remarks from the administration of His Excellency, Governor Alex Otti, which identified the project as a State-led intervention. Ordinarily, such a claim would not deserve a response, especially as the Abia State Government has already addressed and refuted the misleading assertions contained in that statement. However, it is important that the people of Abia State, and indeed Nigerians, understand the true situation surrounding this vital road project. Infrastructure remains the backbone of economic development. Roads in particular connect communities, facilitate trade, and reduce the burden of daily life for ordinary citi...

IT IS TIME TO BUILD OUR GREAT NATION TOGETHER

I welcome the verdict of the Justice John I. Okoro-led Panel of the Supreme Court on the Presidential Election petitions filed by the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party, challenging the ruling of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. The court has done justice to all issues put up for consideration in the petitions on the merits of the law, without fear or favour. There is no doubt, with the profound judgment of today, that our electoral jurisprudence and constitutional democracy are further consolidated and embedded more indelibly in our national identity because of the diligence and undaunted professionalism of the Honourable Justices who presided over the matter. While the verdict of today has laid to rest the agitating discourse over who truly won the 2023 Presidential election and met the constitutional requirements as laid out by law, I want to reiterate that my faith in our nation’s judiciary has never been shaken, not even for...
