CHIEF KANU AGABI AT 80: JONATHAN, KEKERE-EKUN AND KOLAWOLE HEADLINE PUBLIC LECTURE ON ETHICS AND ANTI-CORRUPTION


The colleagues and friends of Chief Godwin Kanu Agabi, CON, SAN, will today, Thursday, 24 September 2026, host a public lecture in Abuja to commemorate his 80th birthday anniversary.

The lecture, titled “Prioritising Ethical Conduct and Anti-Corruption Measures in Governance in Nigeria,” will be delivered by Mr. Simon Kolawole, Editor and Publisher of TheCable.

Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, will serve as Chairman of the Occasion, while the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat M.O. Kekere-Ekun, GCON, will attend as the Special Guest of Honour.

Celebrating a Distinguished Legal Luminary

Chief Godwin Kanu Agabi, CON, SAN, is one of Nigeria’s foremost legal practitioners, respected statesmen and distinguished public servants. He is a former Senator, a two-time Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, as well as a former Minister of Solid Minerals Development.

His remarkable career has been characterised by professional excellence, intellectual depth, integrity and an unwavering commitment to justice, the rule of law and national development.

Through his service at the Bar and in public office, Chief Agabi has contributed immensely to Nigeria’s legal and constitutional development. He has also inspired generations of lawyers and public servants through his exemplary conduct, leadership and dedication to the service of the nation.

Attaining the age of 80 is, therefore, not merely a personal milestone. It presents an opportunity to celebrate a life of impact, honour a distinguished legacy and reflect on the values that should guide leadership and public service in Nigeria.

A Timely Conversation on Governance

The theme of the lecture is particularly relevant at a time when Nigeria continues to confront serious questions concerning ethical leadership, public accountability, institutional integrity and corruption.

The event will provide a platform for members of the legal profession, public officials, policymakers and other stakeholders to examine practical measures for promoting ethical conduct, strengthening public institutions and rebuilding citizens’ confidence in governance.

NBA Abuja Branch Vice Chairman Secures Release of Two Inmates After Three Years in Custody

In a significant human rights intervention, the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abuja Branch (Unity Bar), and Chairman of the Branch Human Rights Committee, Ikemefuna Onyeka, Esq., has facilitated the release of two Inmates, Bali Joshua and Paul Sunday, who had been in custody since 2023 in connection with an alleged homicide.
