SPEAKER SPOTLIGHT: PROF. PAUL OBO IDORNIGIE, SAN


As the Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference (NBA AGC) 2026, themed “Beyond Limits,” approaches, attention is drawn to one of the distinguished speakers at this year’s conference, Prof. Paul Obo Idornigie, SAN, PhD, FCIS, FCIArb (UK), FNIALS, CIArb, Notary Public for Nigeria.

Prof. Idornigie is a distinguished Professor of Commercial Law at Veritas University, Abuja, with an impressive career spanning legal practice, academia, public service and alternative dispute resolution.

He previously served as General Counsel at the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Abuja, and has held several academic positions, including Lecturer at the University of Jos, Senior Lecturer at the Nigerian Law School, Abuja, and Professor of Commercial Law at the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), Abuja.

His wealth of experience extends to university governance, having served as a member of the Governing Council of Veritas University, Abuja and Edo State University, Iyamho, Edo State.

A highly respected figure in arbitration and commercial law, Prof. Idornigie is affiliated with several leading professional and arbitration institutions, including the Nigerian Bar Association, London Court of International Arbitration, African Arbitration Association, Lagos Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration, Lagos Court of Arbitration, Permanent Court of Arbitration at The Hague, and the National Association of Law Teachers.

He is also the 1st National Vice-Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK), Nigeria Branch, and a former Chairman of the Institute’s Abuja Chapter. He currently features on the Approved Faculty List (Tutor) of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK, reflecting his significant contribution to arbitration education and professional development.

With decades of experience in Commercial Law, Arbitration, Legal Education and Public Sector Reform, Prof. Idornigie brings a wealth of expertise to the NBA AGC 2026. His participation is expected to contribute significantly to robust professional discussions and provide valuable insights to lawyers and other participants.

NBA Anaocha Branch Names Hall After Okey Wali, SAN The (NBA), Anaocha Branch (Family Bar), has resolved to name its main meeting hall after the 26th President of the Association, . This decision was reached during the Branch’s monthly general meeting, where members unanimously approved the naming of the hall as “Hon. NBA ABUJA BRANCH CONDEMNS THE ILLEGAL ARREST AND DETENTION OF SIMON AROMOSELE, ESQ. IN THE COURSE OF THE DISCHARGE OF HIS LAWFUL PROFESSIONAL DUTIES The Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja Branch (Unity Bar), strongly condemns the illegal arrest and detention of one of its members, Mr. Simon Aromosele, Esq., today by officers of the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja, in connection with the discharge of his lawful professional duties. Mr. Aromosele was arrested for writing to OPay Bank on behalf of his client, requesting the lifting of a restriction on his client's account or the production of the court order authorising the restriction.
