NBA Leadership Handover: Unity Bar Congratulates Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, on Successful Tenure, Hails Him as Worthy Ambassador


The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja Branch (Unity Bar), Mr. Yakubu Philemon, SAN, has congratulated Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, on the successful completion of his 2024–2026 tenure as President of the Nigerian Bar Association, describing his stewardship of Africa’s largest Bar as courageous, purposeful and impactful.

Philemon also hailed the outgoing NBA President as a worthy ambassador of the Abuja Branch whose leadership at the national level brought pride and honour to the Unity Bar.

In a congratulatory message issued on behalf of the Chairman, Executive Committee and entire membership of the Branch, the Publicity Secretary, Michael Obinna Ochili, Esq., noted that Osigwe’s two-year stewardship was marked by courage, focus, resilience and an unwavering commitment to strengthening the legal profession and repositioning the Bar.


“As you hand over the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association, I salute you for the courage, focus and resilience with which you steered the affairs of the Bar.

“Amid the competing demands, pressures and complexities that naturally accompany the leadership of a diverse and influential professional body such as the Nigerian Bar Association, you remained steadfast and firmly committed to the mandate entrusted to you.

“Your administration pursued meaningful reforms, strengthened the institutions of the Bar, expanded opportunities for professional development, championed access to justice and placed renewed emphasis on the welfare, dignity and professional advancement of Nigerian lawyers,” Philemon stated.

The Chairman further commended Osigwe for providing leadership on critical issues affecting the legal profession, the administration of justice, the rule of law and the wider Nigerian society.

According to him, the significance of Osigwe’s successful tenure goes beyond his accomplishments at the national level. As a distinguished member of the NBA Abuja Branch who rose to occupy the highest leadership position in the Nigerian Bar Association, his stewardship remains a source of immense pride to the Unity Bar.

“Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has been a worthy ambassador of the NBA Abuja Branch. His emergence as President and his successful stewardship of the Association reflect the quality of leadership, professionalism and excellence for which the Unity Bar is renowned.

“We are particularly proud that one of our own had the privilege of leading Africa’s largest Bar and discharged that enormous responsibility with distinction, courage and commitment,” the Chairman added.

Philemon observed that leading an Association as large, diverse and influential as the NBA comes with enormous responsibilities, expectations and competing interests, noting that Osigwe demonstrated commendable capacity in navigating those challenges while keeping his administration focused on its mandate.

He also congratulated members of the outgoing National Executive Committee and all those who contributed to the achievements recorded by the 2024–2026 administration


“As you hand over the mantle of leadership after two demanding years of service, you do so with your head held high. The handing over of office does not mark the end of your service to the Bar. We are confident that your experience, institutional knowledge and passion for the profession will continue to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the Nigerian Bar Association, the advancement of the legal profession and the administration of justice in Nigeria.

NBA Anaocha Branch Names Hall After Okey Wali, SAN The (NBA), Anaocha Branch (Family Bar), has resolved to name its main meeting hall after the 26th President of the Association, . This decision was reached during the Branch’s monthly general meeting, where members unanimously approved the naming of the hall as “Hon. NBA ABUJA BRANCH CONDEMNS THE ILLEGAL ARREST AND DETENTION OF SIMON AROMOSELE, ESQ. IN THE COURSE OF THE DISCHARGE OF HIS LAWFUL PROFESSIONAL DUTIES The Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja Branch (Unity Bar), strongly condemns the illegal arrest and detention of one of its members, Mr. Simon Aromosele, Esq., today by officers of the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja, in connection with the discharge of his lawful professional duties.
