NBA Abuja Branch Begins a New Chapter, as the New Chairman, Yakubu Philemon, SAN, Promises Inclusive Leadership.

The newly elected Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abuja Branch (Unity Bar), Mr. Yakubu Philemon, SAN, has reaffirmed his commitment to building a stronger, more united, and forward-looking Branch, promising to lead with integrity, accountability, and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of members.


In a statement he issued during his acceptance speach Mr. Philemon expressed profound appreciation to members of the Unity Bar for the confidence reposed in him and other members of the newly elected Executive Committee.


Describing his election as both an honour and a solemn responsibility, the Chairman said the new administration would be driven by excellence, inclusiveness, innovation, and service to every member of the Branch.

"I am deeply humbled by the confidence you have placed in me. This victory belongs to every member of the Unity Bar. Together, we will build a Branch where every lawyer has a voice, every member feels valued, and excellence remains our defining standard. My administration will listen, unite, and serve with transparency, fairness, and dedication," Mr. Philemon stated.

The Chairman commended members for their peaceful participation in the electoral process, describing the successful conclusion of the elections as a reflection of the Branch's enduring democratic values and institutional maturity. He also congratulated every member of the newly elected Executive Committee, expressing confidence that the team would work collaboratively to advance the collective interests of the Branch.


He pledged that his administration would prioritize members' welfare, strengthen continuing legal education, promote mentorship for young lawyers, encourage active participation in Branch affairs, and uphold the independence and dignity of the legal profession.

Mr. Philemon further called on members to remain united and actively support the new Executive Committee, emphasizing that the aspirations of the Unity Bar can only be achieved through collective responsibility and shared commitment.

"As we begin this journey together, I invite every member to be a partner in progress. Our success will not be measured by promises made, but by lives impacted, institutions strengthened, and the enduring legacy we leave for future generations of lawyers," he added.



The Chairman expressed optimism that, with the support of members, the Unity Bar would continue to consolidate its reputation as one of the most vibrant and influential branches of the Nigerian Bar Association, while setting new standards in professional excellence, advocacy, and service.

NBA Abuja Branch Vice Chairman Secures Release of Two Inmates After Three Years in Custody

In a significant human rights intervention, the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abuja Branch (Unity Bar), and Chairman of the Branch Human Rights Committee, Ikemefuna Onyeka, Esq., has facilitated the release of two Inmates, Bali Joshua and Paul Sunday, who had been in custody since 2023 in connection with an alleged homicide.
