Historic Courtesy Visit to the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, H.E. Senator John Azuta-Mbata, at the 2026 NBA-AGC in Port Harcourt

It gives me immense pride to present to you the official report of our high-powered, multi-chapter delegation to the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, His Excellency, Senator John Azuta-Mbata, on Tuesday, 25th August 2026.

Stepping away from the plenary sessions at the just concluded Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Otu Oka-Iwu asserted its role as the intellectual vanguard and legal anchor of Ndigbo.

Led by our President, Sir Chidi Udekwe Esq., the delegation brought together leadership and members from across our flagship chapters, including Abuja, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Kaduna States, alongside cross chapter delegates. The visit was both a sacred cultural homage and a strategic alignment between the apex socio-cultural organization of Ndigbo and the body of Igbo legal practitioners.

Key Highlights of the Address
Delivered by Sir Chidi Udekwe Esq., laid out an ambitious, actionable roadmap designed to translate socio-cultural aspirations into enforceable legal protections. The speech anchored collaboration on three vital pillars:

1.Institutionalizing the Protection of Igbo Enterprise: Proposing a joint Ohanaeze–Otu Oka-Iwu legal task force to aggressively litigate against economic profiling, arbitrary market demolitions, and unconstitutional levies targetting Igbo businesses across Nigeria.

2.Legislative Advocacy & Restructuring: Establishing a joint committee to draft, sponsor, and track crucial bills at the National Assembly, focusing on port decentralization, true federalism, and regional security frameworks.

3.Human Rights Defense & Legal Shield: Operating as Ohanaeze’s official pro-bono legal wing to combat extrajudicial profiling, unlawful detentions, and systemic marginalization of our youth.

4.Spotlight on the Igba Boyi Apprenticeship Framework. During the session, the President of Otu Oka-Iwu Abuja formally briefed the President General on the groundbreaking success of our flagship Igba Boyi Initiative.
He highlighted how our structured model of the apprenticeship system was adopted into the legal pupillage framework, which has become a success

His Excellency, Senator John Azuta-Mbata, received the delegation with warmth and enthusiasm. Expressing profound admiration for the initiative and foresight shown by Otu Oka-Iwu, the President General pledged total Commitment and formally committed Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide to a strategic, enduring partnership with Otu Oka-Iwu across all proposed fronts.

He further endorsed the Igba Boyi Scheme and thereafter announced full institutional support for the expansion of the Igba Boyi Scheme, hailing it as a critical asset for youth empowerment and wealth creation across the homeland professionally

 He recognized Otu Oka-Iwu as the indispensable legal arm for defending the fundamental rights and commercial assets of Ndigbo nationwide.

Moving Forward
This historic visit marks a new dawn for Otu Oka-Iwu Abuja and our sister chapters. We have moved from being silent observers to actively shaping the destiny of our people through the power of the law.

 Together, we remain the sword, the shield, and the legal conscience of Ndigbo.

NBA ABUJA BRANCH CONDEMNS THE ILLEGAL ARREST AND DETENTION OF SIMON AROMOSELE, ESQ. IN THE COURSE OF THE DISCHARGE OF HIS LAWFUL PROFESSIONAL DUTIES The Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja Branch (Unity Bar), strongly condemns the illegal arrest and detention of one of its members, Mr. Simon Aromosele, Esq., today by officers of the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja, in connection with the discharge of his lawful professional duties.
