Otu Oka-iwu Abuja, a prominent legal organization of Igbo lawyers practicing in Abuja Nigeria, extends its deepest condolences to the family of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu on the demise of this remarkable figure. We also wish to express our sympathies to Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, the Igbo community, and Nigeria as a whole on this great loss.

Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu, affectionately known as "Ahaejiagamba," took on the pivotal role of President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, effectively repositioning the organization during his tenure. A man of exceptional leadership qualities, Chief Iwuanyawu was an astute leader, erudite scholar, passionate researcher, media entrepreneur, sports enthusiast, influential business mogul, and ultimately, a benevolent philanthropist.

The timing of his passing makes it all the more poignant. Chief Iwuanyawu was at the forefront of various developmental initiatives, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and infrastructure development. Countless lives were transformed by his efforts, and he was also renowned for his unwavering fight against injustice.

The void left by Chief Iwuanyawu's departure may prove challenging to fill. His visionary approach and dedication to the economic integration and development of the Igbo Nation were unparalleled. As a united front, we call upon the Governors of the South-East, Members of the State Houses of Assembly, Federal Representatives, Senators, and the forthcoming President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo to uphold and advance Chief Iwuanyawu's legacy. It is crucial to continue his noble mission and strive towards the progress and prosperity of the Igbo people.

In reflecting on his life and achievements, let us also remember Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu as a courageous advocate for justice, an advocate who devoted himself to uplifting others and making a positive impact within his community and beyond.

May the soul of this great patriarch rest in perfect peace. Amen.

"Ahaejiagamba" took up the mantle of leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo as the President General and repositioned it being an astitute leader, an erudite scholar, researcher, media entrepreneur, sports enthusiast and financier, business mogul and ultimately a philanthropist.

His death at this time means a lot, the gap maybe difficult to fill particularly as he was in the forefront of contributing to education, healthcare, and infrastructure development which transformed countless lives and most importantly, his fight against injustice. 

We join other stakeholders to charge the Governors of the South-East, Members of the State Houses of Assembly, Federal Representatives, Senators, and the succeeding President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo to uphold and advance Chief Iwuanyawu’s legacy particularly in his vision for the economic integration and development of the Igbo Nation.

Section 83 and the Myth of Judicial Silence in Party Politics

The recent assertion by my brother, Festus Okoye Esq, that lawyers have become scapegoats in internal party conflicts owing to their recourse to the courts calls for careful constitutional and judicial interrogation. At the centre of this debate lies Section 83 of the Electoral Act 2026, particularly the suggestion that it absolutely ousts the jurisdiction of the courts over the internal affairs of political parties. With the greatest respect to lawyers who are holding this view, that broad interpretation may appear overstretched and not constitutionally sustainable. Section 83(5) of the Electoral Act, read in isolation, appears to bar courts from entertaining disputes relating to party internal issues absolutely.  On a literal reading, it suggests a legislative intent to shield political parties from judicial scrutiny.
