Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a warning to the staff of Government House, Port Harcourt, regarding their discourteous behavior towards mails from the lawmakers. The Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, expressed his concern during the 92nd legislative sitting, highlighting the strained relationship between the Assembly and Government House.
Amaewhule strongly condemned the disrespectful behavior of the Government House staff, who have been refusing to receive mails from the Assembly. He cautioned that if this behavior persists, the House will no longer accept correspondence from Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The Speaker emphasized that the House diligently transmits its resolutions to the governor's office, but unfortunately, the staff at Government House often decline to receive these resolutions.
In other news, the House has successfully screened and confirmed the nominations of nine commissioner-candidates. These nominees, who have been approved as commissioners and members of the Rivers State Executive Council, include Professor Zacchaeus Adangor, Jacobson Nbina, Gift Worlu, Mrs. Inimefien Aguma, Chukwuemeka Woke, Prof. Chinedu Mmom, Dakorinama Kelly-George, Isaac Kamalu, and Mr. Ben Chioma.
The screening and confirmation process followed a letter from Governor Fubara, requesting the House to screen and confirm the nominees in accordance with Section 192 of the 1999 Constitution.
All nine commissioner-nominees successfully underwent the screening process and were confirmed by the House.
It is worth noting that these nominees had previously resigned during a political crisis between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
